During my COVID ISO time in South Australia, I undertook the challenge of writing a monologue for a series titled Decameron 2.0 put on by the South Australian State Theatre Company and Act Now Theatre. I belong to a small theatre group called Theatre of the Global Majority (TOTGM), who are part of Act Now theatre. We were invited to partake in this project as writers, actors and directors for these short pieces. It was truely an honour to work in professional theatre. I learned so much.
The Decameron 2.0 is a series of 10 monologues put out each week for 10 weeks. Based on Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th century masterwork THE DECAMERON which was written during a time of plague, The Decameron 2.0 shows modern, queer, culturally and linguistically diverse stories.
My piece is titled APRIL in episode 4. Its about half way through the episode. It was directed by Alexis West and acted by the wonderful Shabana Azeez. I hope you enjoy it.
