I love that Still Life painting is an avenue for play and self-reflection. I can spend many hours or even days setting up an arrangement. While composing the little drama I consider many things, such as patterns of colour and the relationship objects have with each other. The space holds these relationships. The space in-between is what cant be said. A liminal space where atmospheres are implied. I am dreaming as I play with this drama on the still life stage. The act of painting is the process that slowly unveils and embellishes the dream. Paint is scraped back, objects move around, and eventually something settles in me. My body tells me when the painting is complete.
